Week 46 – 52 2018 Sweden, Helsingborg
12 November – 30 December 2018 0 nm
Week 46 12 – 18 November 2018 Norra hamnen Helsingborg
A week with little wind but rain most of the first three days.
We worked mostly indoors throughout the week with our presentation that is going to be performed first time in Stockholm end of November.
Some days we visited Björn´s mother for lunch, coffee or dinner. Some days were for shopping and one for laundry.
Sunday it started to get colder. We will soon have to increase our heating. Up till now we have only used one kW in our water heating system and easily kept the boat at 20 C.
Sunday we filled our water tanks for the first time since the water was shut off in the harbour due to coming frost.
Quite a job to use hoses from the Yacht Club all the way to Moon and then bring them back again into the warm building. Luckily we have big tanks lasting for at least three weeks until we have to fill again. While filling water we started the engine and used freshwater to rinse all sea water out of the cooling system.
In the evening we started the Refleks furnace for the first time since arriving to Sweden.
Very nice and cozy even down in the lower part of the boat.
Week 47 19 – 25 November -2018 Norra hamnen Helsingborg
A week with little wind but cold, especially Sunday when we had several degrees below 0 C.
Monday Björns mother lost her balance and fell. Ambulance to the hospital and she had to stay there for the whole week.
This made our week very much upside down and our work with our slideshow that has to be finished mid next week was terrible interrupted due to numerous visits at the hospital. In spite that, we are healthy and in good spirit.
This week’s incident confirmed our decision to sail to Sweden this year to take care of Björns mother was the right one.
She is probably coming home in the beginning of next week and we hope next week will be some degrees warmer!
Week 48 26 November – 2 December 2018 Norra hamnen Helsingborg and a trip to Stockholm
Another mixed week.
Monday was the birthday for Björn’s mother. We brought her home from the hospital for some hours to celebrate her 93 birthday.
Björn’s brother flew back to the Balearics and Berit took the train back home on Tuesday.
Tuesday was also the day when Björn’s mother was “released” from the hospital. Lots of people from the healthcare system took part in that event, deciding what support she needed to be able to continue living on her own.
Wednesday we left early by train for Stockholm. Performing a slideshow at the Swedish Ocean Cruising Club in the evening was the goal for the day. The train ride went through a frosty landscape all the way from Helsingborg to Stockholm. It’s winter in Sweden.
Late evening, after the slide show, we were called from the harbour back home. Strong wind and 95 cm below average in the harbour. Not fun at all. We had not heard of anything like that low before! There is no tide and we were only prepared for like 50 cm below. A neighbour in the harbour had a look and did some small adjustments of our lines.
Rest of the week we visited relatives and friends, living in a cousin’s flat in central Stockholm.
Unfortunately the nice frosty weather changed to rain and wind already on Friday.
Sunday we prepared for the trip back to Moon on Monday.
Week 49 3 – 9 December 2018 From Stockholm to Norra hamnen Helsingborg
Another not so organized week.
The week started going back from Stockholm by train, a journey with no surprises.
It was a relief to find no damages on either Moon or the mooring lines from the blow combined with very low water last Wednesday.
Rest of the week we have spent our time between Björn’s mother and Moon. The latter to prepare for the slide show we will perform at the Yacht Club last Friday evening.
The healthcare support seems to work good for Björn’s mother, making it possible for her to stay in her flat.
The Friday “After work” at the Yacht Club was fun. A full house seemed to enjoy our slide show covering 13 years away from Sweden.
We saw some sunshine on Sunday, but the rest of the week was rainy and windy.
Week 50 10 – 16 December 2018 Norra hamnen Helsingborg
The weeks are still running away like crazy and we are still not really organized.
Lots of time is consumed trying to get the daily routines for Björn’s mother in order.
We are happy to see that the community service employees are quite good and we can in fact leave most of the health aspect to them and concentrate on groceries, laundry and preparing meals. Meals are also the perfect way to have some quality time together more or less every day.
In the meantime we try to get something done on our to-do list in Moon, which is not easy when we only have part of the day off.
One of the big decisions we had to make was new batteries. We would have loved to convert to lithium, but for various reason we have postponed that for some time. We have this week ordered new AGMs to avoid difficult rearrangements/redesigning of the fuse board and distribution system.
The week was ended on Sunday evening with glögg (spicy hot red wine) at the Yacht Club.
The weather has been around zero Centigrade and little wind and almost no snow or rain the whole week.
Week 51 17 – 23 December 2018 Norra hamnen Helsingborg
A grey week that ended just before Christmas with some snow and cold weather.
Almost no wind during the whole week and only rain or snow during night time.
The routines around Björn’s mother are getting in place. We have visit her six days this week.
We are not caught by the holiday traditions and therefore haven’t been exposed to the stress around Christmas. Very relaxing to see people rushing around. On top of that we don’t watch TV or listen to radio, which even more relives us from the holiday stress.
But on the other hand we don’t get much done on our to-do list, because most days we assist Björn’s mother.
We have due to various reasons changed our decision regarding batteries to Moon and will now take up the Lithium thread again.
Week 52 24-30 December 2018 Norra Hamnen Helsingborg
One accident seldom comes alone!
Björn’s mother was slowly getting better, but on the night between the 26 and 27 she fell again.
The x-ray showed fractures in the pelvis that was not possible to treat other than wait and heal.
She is now in hospital for a week or two.
Other than that the week started with a white Christmas Eve and we had a great lunch together with some local relatives and a later dinner alone with Björn’s mother all in her flat.
Next day we spent the whole day together in the flat ended with a lighter Christmas day dinner.
Boxing Day we had Christmas dinner at the Yacht Club. Fun and good, but far too much!
The next day was a long day that started in very early morning with a phone call from the hospital. After an early breakfast we went to the hospital and then to the flat to clean up after the adventures during the night. In the afternoon back to the hospital.
Friday we drove to Landskrona where Björn’s mother had been transported last night.
Saturday we spent in the boat trying to get our albums ready for launching.
Had a nice visit from a bridge college to Björn during the afternoon.
Sunday back to the hospital and hopefully we can still launch the albums before the New Year!
Happy New Year and hopefully you will enjoy our complete (8) albums covering 2018
