Week 41 5 – 11 October Helsingborg
A week without sailing, but instead visiting Björn’s mother at the hospital twice a day and sometime at night. In between our visits we did a lot of hiking in the surroundings. We visited the famous nature reserve Söderåsen together with our friends from Bua. They drove south from their home and we met at the park. Very nice weather and off we went for a long hike.
All the time we had communication with relatives and updated them. We have Björn´s mother’s personal digital security code so we can read the recorded information directly without having to call the hospital. Annika makes a short version of the information and sent them by email to the closest relatives.
In the beginning of the week we drove north to Bua to get some stuff from Moon, and of course inspect the status after some tough winds. She has a perfect place and couldn’t be more protected.
Initially when we took the car to Helsingborg we expected to stay no more than a few days, but have now accepted it will be a lot more.
The rest of the week was filled with two to three times a day visit to the hospital and in between lots of interaction with the community service to cancel all home services for Björn’s mother.
Week 42 12 – 18 October Helsingborg 78 nm
Early Monday morning Björn’s mother passed away during sleep. The last four days she had resisted any treatment, only accepting morphine as painkiller. She was completely ready to let go and we had full contact until the last day. The rest of the week was spent caring for all things around a funeral and all decisions to make around her flat.
Friday we took the car back to Bua and spent two days with our friends Anders and Agneta. Saturday we prepared Moon for sailing back to Helsingborg. Yes we decided that we had to stay in Helsingborg to clear up the apartment and get the funeral going. Having the boat in Bua during coming weeks or months will be hopeless. We want to fix things in the boat and we sure will miss items and tools needed in the apartment.
Sunday we sailed the 78 nautical miles in perfect weather conditions to Helsingborg. Due to the short daylight time we started just before sunrise and arrived in Helsingborg shortly after sunset. Even that was perfect timing.
Week 43 19 – 25 October and week 44 26 October – 1 November
Spent most of the time organizing and cleaning the apartment to put it on the market for sale. All stuff and furniture was meant to give away, but suddenly we found a nice house on the internet, situated north of Gothenburg. Change of plans. Of course we could use a lot of the belongings from the flat.
Finding a house is easy, but being the one who is winning the bidding to purchase is another story.
All these things kept us busy the rest of the month with Moon resting in the north harbour of Helsingborg. We do walk to the boat every day, a good seven kilometre keeping us fit.
