This year begins with sailing in Tasmania.
In February we sail back to New Zeeland South Island to visit Stewart Island for
some week before we are heading north with the final destination Alaska in 2011.
Note - Change of plan, the Alaska trip starts from NZ in March 2011

Fiji - NZ 1020nm in 9 days.
Headwind all the way... |
 |
Another trip around Fiji Totaly 1475nm in Fiji waters in 4 months. |
 |
Around Fiji Totaly 800nm in Fiji waters. The round trip about 550nm. |
 |
NZ - Fiji 1400nm in 10 days. The low from New Caledonia followed a much
southerly path than predicted. The first part was quite wet and uncomfortable
and the second was ok with mainly tailwinnd.
We had only 350nm left for NC but choose the 650nm to Fiji. |
 |
Dunedin to Auckland Dunedin to Christchurch/Lyttelton (200nm) was quite windy.
From Lyttelton to Great Mercury Island (600nm) we had gale and storm in our
footsteps all the time but not over the boat.
The final around the Coromandel peninsula and in to Auckland we had some
motoring and nice sailing on a almost flat sea. |
 |
Stewart Island to Dunedin We spent some days exploring
Paterson Inlet on Stewart Island, waiting for the right wind direction. The trip
to Dunedin, 130nm, became fast but uncomfortable sailing in disturbed sea.
|
 |
Fjordlands Roundtrip to Fjordlands in March is windy and wet.
But also fantastic views as soon as the sun shows up.
|
 |
Stewart Island Landfall in Bluff from Tasmania. The strait is 15 miles in the
narrowest part.
The southwest point - Puysegur - of South Island (in the top left corner of the
map) has the top count of storm and gale-warnings in NZ.
|
 |
Tasman Sea - New Zealand round trip Our track around the Tasman Sea from the
end of October to mid March. |
 |
Tasmania We spent new year in Hobart, Tasmania.
Then set off for some weeks sailing in the south of Tassie.
A week in the wilderness - Port Davey, and then back to Hobart. |
